Bobby Joe Scribner’s sculpture, RACES, suffered an unfortunate injury on its way from the Scribner’s studio in Woodstock, Illinois. However, the ceremony at the Urbana Free Library went on as planned. Scribner, a faculty member at the American Academy of Art, where he founded the figurative sculpture program, spoke about his process and his previous work. After making the necessary repairs, the artist will return to install the piece at the corner of Race and Greene Streets, where it will reside for two years.
RACES will be the latest addition to the Urbana Sculpture Project, a collaborative effort between The Urbana Arts Program, the Urbana Free Library Foundation, the City of Urbana, and the Public Arts League.
