Starting tonight and continuing through Friday, INNER VOICES Social Issues Theatre Group at the Univesity of Illinois will present their newest creation, The People Vs. Power.
For those of you unfamiliar with the work of INNER VOICES and its director, Latrelle Bright, here’s the lowdown: this group creates original and thought-provoking theatre that speaks to social ills and social justice. From racial insensitivity to body image, from the voicelessness of the abused to the invisibility of student veterans, they write, choreograph, rehearse, and perform work that seeks to spark conversation. To that end, each INNER VOICES performance is followed by a facilitated talk-back session, otherwise known as Arts Based Civic Dialogue. The audience, the directors, the actors, and representatives of university social groups exchange ideas and ask questions to move the spirit of the production out of the theater and into the world.

Synopsis: The People have just overthrown Power and, in the aftermath, they put Power and his cronies on trial. Will they be able to dismantle the system? Join us in the People’s Court of Public Opinion and weigh in on the trial of the century!
