About the Illinois Sixth Circuit Court:
Admittedly, I didn’t know a ton about the Circuit Court and its judges until now. Jess highlighted one Sixth Circuit race yesterday, and the introduction of Juliie McClure’s interview with Ramona Sullivan does a terriific job of informing on how the Circuit Court works, and how judges are appointed. So, you can start there, as well as read what the Sixth Ciruit Court presides over (linked at the very top):
The Illinois Sixth Judicial Circuit Court is a trial court in Illinois that presides over the counties of Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, Macon, Moultrie and Piatt.
And according to the Champaign County Board’s website, the mission of the judge is:
To carry out constitutional and statutory responsibilities vested in the Circuit Court; providing trials, hearings, and proceedings in civil and criminal cases.
About Ramona Sullivan:
Ramona Sullivan recently edged out Ruth Wyman in the Democratic primary back in March, a very cloes race indeed. Sullivan grew up here in Central Illinois, graduating from the University of Illinois College of Law. She’s served as a legal aid attorney for over 20 years.
About Cherie Kesler (from her website):
Cherie was raised in Champaign County, and chooses to call it home. She attended Yankee Ridge school in Urbana, Holy Cross in Champaign, and graduated St. Joseph-Ogden High School. She briefly left the community to attend Eureka College (College of Ronald Reagan), returning in 1998 to attend the University of Illinois College of Law.
Here is their recent Candidate Forum, hosted by the League of Women Voters, NAACP of Champaign County, The News Gazette, and WILL.
