Illinois Public Media, along with CU Area Project, Champaign County Voters Alliance, Illinois Newsroom, and League of Women Voters of Champaign County, is hosting a discussion on community violence next Thursday, March 14th, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Parkland Student Union.
From the event page:
Elevate our cities with your voice. Join your fellow CU residents for dinner and conversation about what local public officials should prioritize in order to decrease violence, particularly gun violence, in our communities and increase safety and equity.
What does a safe community (psychologically, physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc) look like to you, and what answers do you need from local leadership about how to achieve it?
After guided small and large group discussions, attendees will co-create a questionnaire for Champaign City Council and mayoral candidates in anticipation of the April 2 local elections. Illinois Public Media reporters will send the questionnaire to candidates and publish answers on our website and social media.
Ticket are free, but limited, so you must register here if you plan to attend. When tickets run out, there will be a wait list. Those on the wait list will be sent a survey so they can add their thoughts to the discussion.
