Illini Railroad Club hosting final open houses this weekend

If you’re a model train enthusiast, the parent of a kid who’s into trains, or just want a chance to check out a cool local “hidden gem”, the Illini Railroad Club is hosting a final public open house before they have to dismantle their 300 square feet on display in Townsend Hall (part of Illinois Street Residence Halls) in anticipation of renovations. The display will be open January 27th and 28th from 1-7 p.m. Here’s more info from their Facebook event:

The Illini RR Club will be hosting our last public open house on the weekend of January 27-28, before we begin the process of dismantling and removing our layout due to impending renovations at ISR. Our layout, housed in Townsend Hall for the last forty years, consists of roughly 300 square feet of HO scale model railroading. If you’d like to come see our layout for one last time, or for the very first time, now’s your chance! The Illini Railroad Club is one of the University’s oldest registered student organizations, and our layout is one of the better kept secrets of the campus. If you’re a modeler, a railfan, or just want to check out a truly neat place, come visit!
