How I Became a Pirate opens Thursday at Parkland

Taken from a Parkland Theatre press release:

A musical for pirates of all ages, based on the book by Melinda Long with illustations by David Shannon. The play is directed by Kyle A. Thomas.

Synopsis: Young Jeremy Jacob is digging in the sand at North Beach when he is greeted by Captain Braid Beard and his mates. He is recruited to help find the perfect digging spot for their treasure. Boarding the ship, the Captain introduces the boy to his pirate crew, a rowdy lot who share with him the ins and outs of a pirate’s life at sea. Jeremy is instructed on how to talk like a pirate and schooled in pirate manners and etiquette (or the lack thereof). In turn, Jeremy shares with them what a typical kid’s day is like (including the wondrous game of soccer!). A story of adventure and finding one’s own heart–a path that can’t be found on any treasure map!

Performances: October 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, and 12 at 7:00 p.m.; October 6 and 12 at 3:00 p.m.

Ticket prices: Adults $14, Students and Seniors $12. For reservations, call the Parkland Theatre box office at 217-373-3874.

The running time for How I Became a Pirate is approximately 1 hour. After the show, the children of the audience will be invited onstage to meet the Pirates, and they may even choose a piece of treasure from the pirate’s chest to take home!
