After consistently endorsing Rodney Davis to represent IL-13, The News-Gazette shockingly shifted course and gave Betsy Dirksen Londrigan the nod this time around.
It’s interesting that one of the biggest reasons they’ve switched to Londrigan is Davis’ unwielding support of President Trump, even though he regularly touts how bipartisan he is. Opponents of Davis, our magazine included, have shouted this from the rooftops for the past four years, yet this is what the N-G had to say when they endorsed Davis in 2018:
Reserved and pleasant, Davis doesn’t come across as personally alienating. He’s been ranked near the top of the list of the most bipartisan members of the U.S. House. (That finding is based by measuring the frequency with which each member’s bills attract co-sponsors from the opposite party, as well as how frequently they co-sponsor bills by members of the opposite party).
It seems they are finally paying attention to what the rest of us have been paying attention to all along:
He is now co-chair of the Trump re-election campaign in Illinois and yet insists he is an independent minded congressman who deserves reelection. In truth, he is one of Trump’s enablers.
He’s always been a Trump enabler, but hey, we’ll take the change of heart, no matter how late it is.
