Out of the ashes of Rumours Hat Shoppe’s closure towards the end of last year, owner and operator Sally Mundy has a new project on her hands on campusat U of I.
Happy Jack Hat Co. will open this Saturday, January 12th at 701 S. Gregory, Suite G in Urbana.
Their hours will be 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday the 12th, and they’ll be open every day after that (roughly 11 a.m.-7 p.m.) until they sort out the best hours of operation for the coming weeks.
Per Mundy’s note to us, it’ll be a hat shop, but “entirely different than Rumours was”. Here’s what she has to say:
Happy Jack will focus primarily on fashion/lifestyle/streetwear ballcaps, winter-wear (tons of styles of beanies/stocking caps) and other headwear. And there will be a small selection of driving/newsboy caps. We’ll carry brands like Grassroots California, COAL, Findlay, Kangol, local faves Elusive Society, and many more – most of which have staples that carry through season to season but also small batch runs that once they’re gone that’s it – we’ll have those small runs too. Overall we’re hoping to do something entirely new – get the latest, coolest trends in fashion hats and put them all together in one place, both brick and mortar and online (soon)!
So, this is good news for brick-and-mortar retail in Champaign-Urbana. I’m sure we will have more to share about Happy Jack Hat Co. after they open.
