Green Purpose, LLC will be sponsoring an electronics recycling drive on October 20, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be located at Home Depot, 820 Bloomington Rd. in Champaign, Illinois and is free of charge. Instead of throwing away old electronic devices that will make its way to a landfill, Advanced Technology Recycling (ATR) will recycle the items. ATR is a State Registered and R2 Responsible Electronic Recycling certified company.
The recycling drive will be held for residents only, not businesses. There is a drop-off limit of ten items and paper shredding will be available for confidential documents. The electronics that can be recycled include: computers and laptops including accessories and peripherals, televisions, stereos, video and electronic game equipment, phones, rechargeable batteries, and cables.
This is an incredible opportunity for residents to have a positive impact on the environment. The objects that will be recycled at this drive would otherwise end up in a landfill. Dumping waste into landfills is extremely harmful to our planet. According to the EPA, Americans generated more than 3 million tons of electronic waste in 2007. Of that amount, only 410,000 tons (less than 14%) were recycled. The rest found its way into landfills and incinerators. Help save our planet by taking a few minutes out of your day to properly recycle these electronic items.
