I’m as sick and tired of the cold, grey weather we’ve been seeing in the Midwest as anyone else. It’s awful and it feels like the sunshine and temperatures that don’t require a hat and gloves is far away.
Really, though, it’s not too far off.
The slog of winter and early spring brings about a number of ways to attempt to stay warm before venturing out into the cold as go from home to work to social life. Truthfully, though, there’s something about congregating with other people trudging through the same weather related experiences that leads to a sort of camaraderie amongst strangers.
It doesn’t really occur while driving or anything like that or standing in line at the bank. But it definitely happens at just the right local cafes. Champaign is lucky enough to have one right in the heart of downtown that acts as a hub for the de-caffeinated crowds trying to wind up their daily shuffle.
Cafe Kopi, in weather like this, is perfect. It’s almost the anti-beer garden. Not in the way that one is good and the other is bad, but in the way that this is a place indoors that offers you comfort and familiarity while you can enjoy your favorite beverage. It’s warm, it’s inviting, and it’s what we need when we’ve been teased with 70 degree temperatures and are now forced to endure snow flurries and frigid conditions.
Warm up with a coffee and acknowledge your fellow residents’ ability to deal with the same climate struggle you’re dealing with. Soon enough it’ll be sunny and warm, but for now, deal the best way you can— stop in to Cafe Kopi.
