From the press release:
The City of Urbana invites the public to a special exhibition of traditional Chinese landscape paintings by artist Liu Jungang of the city of Shenzen, Gaungdong Province, China. Mr. Liu is currently an Artist in Residence at Eastern Illinois University.
Urbana’s Chinese sister city, Haizhu District of the city of Guangzhou, is also in Guangdong Province. Urbana is delighted to host this exhibition to celebrate the cultural connection between Urbana and China.
The exhibition is free, open to the public, and will be on display in the City Building lobby at 400 S. Vine Street in Urbana from April 15–20, 2013. A public reception with light refreshments will be held on Saturday, April 20 from 4:30–5:30 p.m. in the Urbana City Building Lobby at 400 S. Vine Street in Urbana.
A graduate of the Beijing Central Painting Art Institute, Liu Jungang’s work has been exhibited in Germany, Japan, and the United States, as well as throughout China. The Chinese Postal Administration selected him in 1996 to create a series of postage stamps. In 2012, Mr. Liu was awarded the Green Prize by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture.
Urbana created the Artist of the Corridor program in March 2010 to feature artwork in the City Building lobby. As a part of the Urbana Public Arts Program, this initiative works to create a city where all residents engage with the arts in its many forms and where artists thrive and are valued.
