Former Fighting Illini football and Dallas Cowboys lineman Josh Brent was found guilty by a Texas jury this afternoon after an incident that occurred back in December 2012. Here’s what the Chicago Tribune reported earlier:
DALLAS — A Texas jury on Wednesday found former Dallas Cowboys and Illinois defensive lineman Josh Brent guilty of intoxication manslaughter for causing a single-car crash in December 2012 that killed teammate Jerry Brown Jr.
Prosecutors said Brent drank heavily at a Dallas area club, got behind the wheel of his car and flipped it in a high-speed crash that killed Brown, a Cowboys practice squad linebacker and close friend who also was Brent’s teammate at Illinois.
Brent retired from the NFL last year.
