ELLNORA: The Guitar Festival, the biennial guitar festival at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, is just a few weeks away. Yesterday, fest organizers announced a special pre-festival concert featuring local bands from Champaign’s musical history.

Local axe slammers representing the best of the Champaign-Urbana region’s music scene will perform in true ELLNORA style in a FREE pre-festival Local Heroes concert on Tuesday, September 8 at 6:30pm. Tim Donaldson of The Blind Justice has curated a lineup that promises a high-energy night of rock standards and original music.
In addition to the Texas and British blues-influenced Blind Justice with special guests Dyke Corson, Doc Lecouris, Tim Frazier, Dody Cosmedy, Jodi Wilkey and Rena Day, the audience can expect appearances by Vermillion County’s Alex “Wayne” Jenkins, James Jones, and Susan Williams; Dan Hubbard and Dexter O’Neal of McLean County; and Jordan and Jill, Michael Carpenter, The No Secret Band, Brandon T. Washington, and Paul and Gloria, all hailing from Champaign County.
Krannert Center Senior Associate Director Rebecca McBride remarked that “Local Heroes Night celebrates the incredible band scene that has thrived in Champaign-Urbana since the 1960s. Every fan of live, local music will appreciate this love letter to our community’s rock ‘n’ roll spirit as we rev up to the start of ELLNORA | The Guitar Festival 2015.“
