You don’t get many opportunities to sample offerings from a range of local chefs all in one swoop, and this Saturday just happens to be one of those times. The 2018 Artisan Cup & Fork is happening at Broadway Food Hall from 6 to 9 p.m., and tickets are still available for the event. Eight chefs will partner with local farms to prepare a “seasonally inspired signature dish” that will be evaluated by a panel of judges for the Frontera Grand Prize. The winning team will be treated to a brewery tour in Chicago culminating in a beer tasting at Cruz Blanca, dinner at Leña Brava, and most importantly a meet and greet with famed chef and restaurateur Rick Bayless. You will also have the opportunity to do a little judging to help determine the People’s Choice Award.
Artisan Cup & Fork is the annual fundraiser for The Land Connection, and all proceeds from the event will go to their mission of “growing the local food economy, both on and off the farm, for a healthy resilient future.” Here are the specifics from the press release:
This year’s competing chefs include reigning champion Adam Shallenberger [Fired/SMOKED!], Leaf DeFehr [V.Picasso], Ryan Rogiers [Wheelhouse], Mark Cannon [Black Dog Smoke & Ale House – Urbana], Jacob Paul [Haute Boxx], Anne Caye [Personal Chef], Jordan Baldarotta [Baldarotta’s Porketta & Sicilian Sausage], and Jordan & Aurora Coffey [American Harvest Eatery]. They will be teamed up with three local and regional
farms, one specializing in protein/meat, one produce farm, and one dairy/cheesery. They will also be encouraged to use local grains to produce any breads, pastas, or other doughs they may need.Tickets are $75 per person. All tickets include access to the event and tasting portions of all 8 teams’ creations, plus drink tickets to sample locally-crafted beer and spirits. More information about the event, including the teams and the local breweries and distilleries featured, as well as links to purchase tickets can be found on the event website: http://artisancup.com/
