Douglas Rain, the voice of the fictional computer HAL 9000 in Stanley Kubrick’s legendary 2001: A Space Odyssey, has died at the age of 90. The HAL 9000 story begins here in Champaign-Urbana, as it was “born” in Urbana at the University of Illinois.
If you haven’t seen the film, you should absolutely do that. They recently showed it at the Virginia on that monster screen.
