Okay, this may not immediately strike you as an event you’re going to enthusiastically mark on your calendar. But, I think this is actually a pretty meaningful and important (and healthy) endeavor.
Waking Death Cafe is hosted by Melanie Sheckels and Melissa Morgan. Sheckels is an End of Life Doula, which you can read more in our interview with her. It’s a monthly forum that addresses topics related to death and dying. Death Cafes are an international thing, with the objective “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.” You can read more about the concept here.
There are currently three cafes scheduled at Soul Care in Urbana: November 6th, December 4th, and January 8th at 6 p.m. The November topic will be Death and Social Media.
Light refreshments will be offered and it’s free to attend, though donations are accepted, and you should RSVP here.
