Registration is now open for CUTC’s “Broadway Basics” workshop series. Students in 5th through 8th grade can register for theatre training sessions that will culminate in a performance of Into the Woods, Jr., a one-act version of the Sondheim musical that was 2014’s Christmas blockbuster and award-winner. While the film version was challenging both musically and thematically, this one-hour adaptation has been modified for younger actors.
An $85 fee will cover the cost of six weeks of sessions, running from mid-January through the end of February on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. Arts education teaches not only performance skills, but also enhances communication skills, boosts confidence, requires cooperation, and encourages empathy. So if you own a burgeoning actor, or know of a youth who could stand to improve in any of those areas, consider helping them fill the boring wasteland of late winter with art.
