I wanted to mention one event occurring in conjunction with the Planet U conference, which finishes up at Beckman on Friday, that’s not on the main schedule. The Advanced Visualization Lab will be opening up their offices to the general public over the noon hour to show off some of their shiny toys, including a brand new one. Donna Cox, director of the lab, described it as a 4-D stereo video headset that will allow you to enter into a simulation and fly through it using controllers to change your point of view. It sounds pretty cool, though I’ll probably jet if she starts offering red and blue pills.
(By the by, if you’re not reading XKCD, you really should be.)
The mini-open house takes place in Room 1005 at NCSA from noon to 1 p.m.
