For those of you with Christmas trees to dispose of, the City of Champaign has announced theirChristmass tree collection program, as a way to recycle your tree for free.
All you have to do is put your tree within four feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on the date corresponding to your zone in the picture below, and it vanishes to some sort of sustainable and environmentally-friendly tree heaven.

CITY OF CHAMPAIGN CHRISTMAS TREE COLLECTION
Champaign – This year, the City of Champaign Christmas Tree Collection will occur on Monday, January 9, 2017, for all of the Blue Zones, and on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, for all of the Orange Zones.
This collection is available to all residential properties in the City of Champaign within City limits. This program provides an opportunity for residents to recycle their natural Christmas tree at no charge.
City residents may participate by placing their tree within four feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on their scheduled collection date. Residents should refer to the map below to determine their collection day. Participants will need to remove decorations, stands, and plastic bags before setting their tree out for collection. The collected
trees are chipped and made into garden mulch.Additional information on this program can be found on the City’s

Trees may also be taken to the Landscape Recycling Center at 1210 E. University Avenue in Urbana for free disposal during the month of January. Residents may call the Center at 217.344.5323 with any questions regarding operating hours.
