Last week, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District was awarded the 2019 Local Health Department of the Year by the National Association of County and City Health Officials. According to the press release, applications were scored based on innovation and creativity, implementation, impact in the community and public health, and engagement of community and diverse partners.
CUPHD has been able to demonstrate this in particular through their service of the immigrant population in C-U, one of the largest outside of the Chicago Area. Says CUPHD Administrator Julie Pryde, “CUPHD is honored to be a part of such a diverse community and serve as a Community Health Strategist bringing together disparate resources to strengthen services to our increasing immigrant community. CUPHD is also committed to fundamentally changing the culture of our organization to ensure that all employees understand that CUPHD has an important role in improving health, wellbeing and social justice for all in our community.”
Kudos to them for all of the work they are doing to better our community.
