In what is certainly a reverse from other broad-sweeping social services that have been impacted by either the state budget crisis or the Trump Administration, The News-Gazette is reporting this morning that the City of Champaign has released a new spending budget for the upcoming year.
In an encouraging turn, this budget will actually allow expanded services at the Champaign Public Library, including extended open hours (9 pm on Thursdays, an extra hour on Sundays) and no staff reductions. The new city budget will also include a one-time allotment of $300,000 to the Champaign Police Department for property crime investigation.
The new budget will be discussed at the next three city council meetings, and will be voted on during the June 6th session.
