I often feel that I have personally kept the library afloat with the plethora of overdue fines I’ve racked up over the years. When my kids were little and we were checking out 30 books at a time, it was a serious issue. Yes, the library has the convenient app where all you have to do is go in and tap your screen to renew books. They even send reminders when your books are about to be due. But this is still too much for my somewhat disorganized self to manage to accomplish.
Therefore, I was quite delighted when I heard of this new policy. Beginning August 1st, any items eligible for renewal will renew automatically when their due date come up. Not once, but up to 10 times! They will even continue to send notices so that you know when your items are being renewed, and when they’ve hit their limit. There are a few exceptions:
- items reserved for another customer using the Holds service
- already overdue items
- rental items
- interlibrary loan items
- e-content
- any hourly loans
- Urbana Free Library items
Life. Changing.
