Champaign City Council’s Marci Dodds announces resignation

From the press release:

Champaign City Council Member Marci Dodds Announces Resignation

Resignation Effective March 23, 2016

District 4 Council Member Marci Dodds announced today that she is resigning from the Champaign City Council effective March 23, 2016. Council Member Dodds is resigning because she and husband Jon “Cody” Sokolski are relocating to Chicago.

“District 4 is the geographical and metaphorical heart of Champaign and it has been my honor and deepest privilege to represent the people who make up that heart,” reports Dodds. “It has been a pleasure to work with my fellow Council Members and Mayor Feinen, as well as former Council Members/Mayors. They approach public service with integrity, generosity, and have the community’s best interests in mind. I also want to acknowledge City staff who work tirelessly for our residents. They do their jobs with little fanfare or recognition, but always with excellence and pride.  Cody and I are not moving away from Champaign; we are moving towards an exciting new chapter in our lives. We have, and will always maintain, deep ties to this vibrant and wonderfully diverse city.”

Dodds’ Council term runs through May 2017. Following the effective date of her resignation, the City Council has 60 days to appoint a replacement.  The City Council will discuss the process of filling the District 4 Council seat during a Post Council Study Session meeting on March 1, 2016. The Council appointee must reside in Council District 4 and have been a resident of the City of Champaign for at least one year.
