Tristan Wraight took time out from his busy schedule to share some news on Headlights. The group is busy finishing up its new album (to be released on Polyvinyl) and preparing to go on a mini-tour prior to a full national tour in April. They’ll be joined by The Love Language for the big tour.
Headlights bassist/guitarist John Owen, who got married just after Christmas and has been living in San Francisco for a few months, recently left the band. On John’s departure, Tristan says: “It just didn’t work out — no hard feelings at all. It’s tricky to be in a touring band and live in California when the band lives in Illinois. I hope he and Seth Hubbard from Polyvinyl, who also lives in San Fran, will start a band. We don’t really need a fifth person. It was just fun to have another body up there, more energy. So we don’t have any plans to replace him right now. Romantically, I suppose that we would all like someone to go between keys, guitar, and percussion on tours. A girl would be best for vocal stuff. But we’re pretty busy and there isn’t a lot of time to search out a new member.”
Headlights recently released a cover of XTC’s “Making Plans for Nigel,” from the group’s 1979 album Drums and Wires, which Headlights recorded for the site Buffet Libre DJs. Here’s the original back with their cover. Tour dates follow.
