From the press release:
The Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival fundraising campaign kicks off with a bang – and a meal. On June 3rd, the C-U Folk and Roots Festival will host, Eat for a Cause, at Louie’s Dixie Kitchen & BBQ, a Cajun & Creole Restaurant, 1104 N. Cunningham Avenue, Urbana, IL.
This community-building fundraising event came about after festival committee members, Ed Hawkes and Jeff Zolitor stopped in for a meal. “Champaign and Urbana have some outstanding restaurants, and this one ranks with the best of them”, says Zolitor
On June 3rd, a percentage of all sales for the entire day will be donated to the festival. The festival is providing live Cajun music by the talented duo, The Turinos (Tom and Matt), from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
“We’ve never had a fundraising event quite like this before”, says Zolitor. “We usually solicit donations from members of the community through direct mail and personal contacts. This is the first time we’ve ventured into the community to solicit contributions through their stomachs.” The members of the festival community are excited about the event, as are the proprietors of Louie’s Dixie Kitchen & BBQ, Leah Pettit and Dirk Bodine.
The owners said they may need to rearrange things a bit to accommodate their guests and the musicians, but are looking forward to providing their customers with live music.
The restaurant opens at 8:00am, and usually closes about 9:00pm, although if the party carries on a bit longer, Leah and Dirk probably won’t complain.
Bring your appetite, and after 5:30pm, your instrument, and join the Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival as they celebrate the food, music and hospitality of America.
