There are some forms of entertainment that with can be performed with such a range of emotional involvement, sincerity, and, then, sometimes, utter silliness, and inappropriate crudity. The sort of mixed bag you subject yourself to at a comedy open mic is part of the charm which, for me, pairs comedy with reality, sometimes — never always — leading to reflection. All this to say, those who make it to a comedy, “Stand Up Showcase” must have hit the laugh meter enough times to ensure their time on stage worthwhile. Which means you don’t want to miss seeing them, and you also want to pay. This Friday, July 20th, the C-U Comedy Club presents a “Stand Up Showcase”, from 8:30 to 10:00 p.m. Comedians from across central Illinois — Josh Freeman, Hayden Hamilton, Jeff Govedink, Jesse Tuttle, and Kadeem Fuller — will all perform their best acts at Soma where you can find a fair priced domestic or enjoy a crowd favorite Moscow Mule. The doors for this event open at 8 p.m. You can purchase tickets in advance and save yourself the price of a beer, here. Photo from the C-U Comedy Club website.
