I’ll be damned – we did it. Today, the San Antonio Spurs announced the signing of former University of Illinois basketball player Brandon Paul. Paul, 26, has had a consistent career since leaving the U of I, bouncing between small European clubs and various NBA D League teams.
In a way, this feels like the most satisfying Illini-to-the-NBA journey in recent memory. I mean, sure, Myers Leonard has been in the NBA for a while now, but he only spent a couple of years at the U of I. Brandon Paul was here through thick and thin for four very strong years, and it’s a pleasure to see him succeed.
