Oops.
The Champaign City Council goofed. They thought people wanted to pay more taxes, even on top of the huge state increase levied this year on spirits.
However, that council is still responsive to its business community. (I know, wacky idea isn’t it?)
Last night, the councilors and mayor voted unanimously against their new tax.
The move should take pressure off local merchants. Sun Singer’s pickles had already suffered a major shriveling. The intensely long wait for lunch service might now be mitigated.
