From a Champaign Public Library News Release:
Bestselling author Kimberla Lawson Roby, creator of the popular Reverend Curtis Black series, will visit Champaign to talk about her life as a writer and introduce her newest book, The Perfect Marriage. The public is invited to meet the author during a free event on Tuesday, March 12, at 6:00 p.m., at the Douglass Branch of the Champaign Public Library. The event is hosted by the library’s Table Talk Book Discussion Group and sponsored by the Champaign Public Library Friends.
Roby’s eighteen published novels — including Secret Obsession and Love, Honor, and Betray — are known for tackling difficult social issues. They have frequented numerous bestseller lists, and her debut novel, Behind Closed Doors, was the number one Blackboard bestselling paperback fiction book in 1997.
Roby, who lives in Rockford, Illinois, is a five-time recipient of the Female Author of the Year award presented by the African-American Literary Award Show in New York. She has two additional books slated for release later this year: A House Divided will be released on May 7, and A Christmas Prayer is due out in October.
The Douglass Branch Library is located at 504 E. Grove St., just west of Booker T. Washington STEM Academy. Registration is not needed to attend. For more information, call (217) 403-2090.
