Applications now open for Urbana’s Public Arts Grants Program

One of the best things about the City of Urbana is their clear commitment to public art – so much so that they offer grants to artists to the tune of up to $47,500.

City of Urbana Announces the 2017 Urbana Arts Grants Program

The City of Urbana Public Arts Program announces the opening of the 2017 cycle of its Urbana Arts Grants Program.  Up to $47,500 will be awarded to artists, arts organizations, and festival presenters for creative projects that enrich the lives of Urbana residents and visitors.

Applicants may apply by e-mail or submit a hard copy. The application form and guidelines are available online at www.urbanaillinois.us/artsgrants. All application materials must be received by 5:00 p.m. CST on February 6th, 2017.

“For almost nine years, the Urbana Arts Grants Program has supported a wide range of arts-related programs and services that make Urbana a more vibrant place to live and work,” says Pauline Tannos, Public Arts Coordinator at the City of Urbana. “Through selective funding, we aim to foster a city that values creativity, innovation, and collaboration.”

This grant program is open to all disciplines in the arts, including but not limited to creative writing, dance, film, video, music, theatre, visual arts, crafts, performing arts, spoken word, environmental arts, multimedia arts, architectural arts, landscape architecture, and emerging media. Grants will be available in four categories listed below:
Individual: Grants for emerging and professional artists
Group: Grants for groups, troupes and ensembles
Nonprofit: Grants for tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations
Urbana Festival: Grants for festival presenters

City staff will hold an information session about this funding opportunity at the Independent Media Center (202 S. Broadway Avenue) on Thursday, December 1, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Those interested in applying or learning about grant writing are encouraged to attend. The workshop is free and open to the public.
