Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities is launching A Year of Creative Writers, a series of discussions featuring important writers and authors, across all three U of I campuses. Anna Deavere Smith is up first, and she will be a part of two public events today and tomorrow. Smith is a playwright who has written and performed many one woman shows, though you might recognize her from Nurse Jackie or The American President or The West Wing, to name a few of her acting roles.
Smith will be performing in the Colwell Playhouse at Krannert tonight at 7:30 p.m. You can purchase tickets here.
You can also attend CultureTalk with Smith and composer Julie Wolfe in the Colwell Playhouse on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Lisa Gaye Dixon, Producer/Chair of the Illinois Acting Program and Associate Professor in Theatre, will be moderating the discussion, which will be “an exploration of the ideas surrounding the arts and culture.” The event is free, but you need to reserve tickets.
