A U of I professor is investigating the Champlain Towers collapse

Youssef Hashash, a professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering, joined a team of forensic engineers to conduct an investigation into the collapse of the Champlain Towers South condos in Florida. There are also two CEE alums, James R. Harris and Jack P. Moehle.

From the U of I CEE website:

The team’s goal will be to determine the likely cause or causes of the collapse and make recommendations that will improve building codes and standards in the future. Under the National Construction Safety Team Act of 2002, NIST has primary authority to investigate the site of building disasters in the U.S. The technical investigation will be organized around a number of focused projects.

Hashash will co-lead the Geotechnical Engineering project.
