CAMPUSTOWN’S 13 THURSDAYS ANNOUNCES FULL LINEUP OF ENTERTAINMENT!

Visit Campustown all summer long and enjoy specials and deals from participating businesses each Thursday from May 21st through August 20th with 13 Thursdays! This year the Champaign Center Partnership is thrilled to add live performances and family-friendly activities to select Thursdays this summer!

“We wanted to add a new element to 13 Thursdays this year,” Champaign Center Partnership Executive Director, Erin Lippitz said. “We’ve partnered with our local businesses, musicians and entertainers to provide our community with live performances and activities in Campustown throughout the summer. It’s just one more reason to visit this great area of town!”

13 Thursdays kicked off on May 21st with a Campustown Treasure Hunt sponsored by Busey but that’s not the only fun that the Champaign Center Partnership has planned! Local musicians will be performing in Tech Plaza (on Green St. between Apricot Lane and McDonald’s) and on the corner of Sixth and John St. on select Thursdays throughout the summer.

All 13 Thursdays’ performances begin at 5:30 p.m. unless otherwise indicated. The performance and event schedule is as follows: June 4th Emily Otnes at Tech Plaza sponsored by Roland Realty, June 25th Killer Bee Honey at Firehaus, July 2nd Writer’s Block at Sixth and John, July 16th Campustown Pub Tour (registration is open online at champaigncenter.com), July 16th Riders of the Golden Maize at Sixth and John at 7:15 p.m. after the Pub Tour, July 23rd Quad Cinema Night sponsored by the Illini Union Bookstore at 7 p.m. on the Main Quad, July 30th Katie Flynn at Tech Plaza, August 30th Angie Heaton at Tech Plaza and the Kids Tailgate at Sixth and Green St.

“Our overall theme this year is WHEN THE STUDENTS ARE AWAY, THE ADULTS WILL PLAY,” Lippitz said. “So if you’re the type to avoid Campus because of the student crowd, there should be nothing stopping you now. We want to get the message out to the community that Campustown is for everyone, not just the students.” Lippitz said.

A schedule of events as well as details on the businesses offering special deals and incentives can be found on champaigncenter.com. Click the Campustown Parking button near the top of the page for a map of available and free parking.

13 Thursdays is sponsored by TownePlace Suites Marriott, Roland Realty, Busey, Firehaus, C-U MTD, Illini Union Bookstore, the Illini Union Board, Chief Crossfit, Merry Ann’s Diner and Hot Pot Lab.
