WHAT: Love of Everything, Common Loon, Horrible Things
WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)
WHEN: Wednesday, October 19th at 9:00 p.m.
Joan of Arc family member Bobby Burg is back again with his solo project. Almost totally avoiding Tim Kinsella’s hyper-literate atonality, the Love of Everything is refreshingly uncluttered indie-pop, a perfect soundtrack for what’s sure to a chilly evening.
WHAT: Girl Talk, Kid Cudi
WHERE: Memorial Stadium Lot 31
WHEN: Thursday, October 20th at 5:00 p.m.
Some kind of wacky Victoria’s Secret tie-in, this show was just announced within the past few weeks. While Fratapalooza 2011 is indeed a free event, you have to print out this PDF file and then show up with an actual student ID. You certainly can’t complain about that lineup, though.
WHAT: Project/Object featuring Ray White and Ike Willis
WHERE: Canopy Club ($15 advance)
WHEN: Thursday, October 20th at 7:30 p.m.
Ike Willis and Ray White toured with Frank Zappa in the 1980s, anchoring the vocal section of what a whole bunch of people still consider to be the best rock band of all time. Fifteen bones is a steal, especially for an all-Zappa set.
WHAT: Dino Bravo, Maidens, Rvins, Hank
WHERE: Red Star Liquors (FREE)
WHEN: Sunday, October 23rd at 9:00 p.m.
I guess everyone forgot to book shows on Friday and Saturday. At least you can get your fill of punk and metal for free on a Sunday nightPick up a copy of the Dino Bravo tape while you’re there.
