The Overture is a rundown of live music and performances happening in the Champaign-Urbana area (and the outskirts) each week. All of the information is as accurate as we can publish, but all shows and performances are subject to change at any time. Thank you for understanding.

Grammy Award winner and country singer Rosanne Cash highlights the mid week shows in Champaign-Urbana this week. Her resume extends much further than a column like this one can support, so a simple Google search will provide detail in that arena. She’s on tour with her husband (and collaborator) John Leventhal.

Lee Ann Womack

Deafheaven, DIIV, Chastity
► The Canopy Club // $20 advance/$25 door // 9 p.m.
An excellent co-headlining bill heads to Canopy Club on Friday night. Post rock/black metal outfit Deafheaven released their new record Ordinary Corrupt Human Love earlier this year, and head back to town for the first time since performing at PYGMALION in 2014, playing direct support for American Football that year. DIIV’s dream pop is a welcomed balance to this one, they’ve been fairly quiet since their record Is This Is Are came out a few years ago. Deafheaven are a magical band to see live, so this is highly recommended this week.

Sara Quah Band, Oceana
► nightshop in Bloomington // $8 // 6:30 p.m.
REO Speedwagon
► The Virginia Theatre // $60-$200 // 7:30 p.m.
Though this show will likely be sold out by the time this article publishes, the legendary REO Speedwagon performs this weekend after having to reschedule this show, which was originally slated for February of this year. I hope I don’t need to go into much detail here — REO Speedwagon is REO Speedwagon, there’s a damn street dedicated to them here in town.
Poster Children, Social Imaginary
► Blackbird // $10 // 9 p.m.
Poster Children perform in Urbana this weekend, which is fairly rare these days, though they’ve been playing a bunch of shows this year on the tail of their new record, Grand Bargain! Read our interview with the band from a few months back to catch up on that front. They’re performing with Social Imaginary, which is potentially the last show they will perform with Adam Fein, as he’s moving out of C-U.
