The Overture: November 19–25

WHAT: Egos at the Door, The Great Repression, Mille Nomi, Ando Ehlers, Bailout

WHERE: Red Herring

WHEN: Monday, November 19th at 10 p.m.

A lot of bands filling this bill on a Monday night, featuring touring acts Egos at the Door from the UK and punks from Seattle Andos Ehlers. Not sure if there is a price for this show, but I’m certain it will go to support the out of town crews as they make their way around the U.S.

WHAT: Mark Laughlin, John Coppess, William Dicker

WHERE: The Clark Bar (free)

WHEN: Tuesday, November 20th at 7 p.m.

Tuesdays at the Clark Bar continue with singer-songwriter tunes. This week SP contributor Mark Laughlin headlines with a couple of others who have played in the series before. Should be a solid trio of performers this week.

EDITOR’S PICK: THE DIRTY FEATHERS,
LOVE TOY

Memphis on Main ($5) — Wednesday, November 21st at 9 p.m.

The Dirty Feathers’ Blackout extravaganza for Thanksgiving might leave you with a headache waking up Thursday morning, but it’s bound to be a good time. Memphis on Main is becoming a better venue to host bands — I feel like every show I see that they book there gets better each time. Newer local act Love Toy has played a few shows with the DFs, and they’re pairing up for another one this week. I have not had a chance to get out and see them yet, but from what I’ve heard, they are definitely worth checking out.

WHAT: Degrade The Signal, By Any Means, Airacobra, The Azure Wake, Cloud Gavin

WHERE: The Canopy Club ($6)

WHEN: Friday, November 23rd at 9 p.m.

Rockers from neighboring city Danville bring a handful of bands together at Canopy Club late in the week. They released an EP earlier this year and you can preview some of their songs below. Cloud Gavin are local, but the rest of the bands are out of towners.

WHAT: Mille Nomi, Acme Principle

WHERE: Memphis on Main ($5)

WHEN: Friday, November 23rd at 10 p.m.

Two shows this week for Mille Nomi, as well as two shows at Memphis on Main to go along with it. A few less bands than the other show to start the week for Mille Nomi, but they’ll be sharing the stage with Acme Principal. Be sure to stream their WEFT session below to get an idea of what they’re all about.

WHAT: Chase Baby, Chasin’ Treez, Truth aka Trouble, Jay Moses, Nikko Grey, DJ Epilep[C]

WHERE: The Canopy Club ($7)

WHEN: Saturday, November 24th at 9 p.m.

Hip-hop artist Chase Baby headlines a good show this week at Canopy. The bill is packed with performers, as I’m finding out, most of the shows this week are folllowing suit. This is the first I’ve heard of this local rapper, so it could be interesting to discover a new artist in this genre around town.

Interesting and innovative electro-jam duo Big Gigantic bring their redundant name and fresh style to C-U with a tour pairing Ana Sia. You can listen to their whole new album Nocturnal over at their website here. We’ll have a closer look at this Sunday show in a few days.
