WHAT: Petunias, The Mad Gleam, Derrick Hart
WHERE: Red Herring ($5)
WHEN: Wednesday, July 13th at 9:00 p.m.
Petunias are a name that’s starting to pop up on lineups more and more recently. A quick jaunt over to their Bandcamp reveals an interesting collision of lo-fi and post rock influences. Touring acts the Mad Gleam and Derrick Hart round out the lineup.
WHAT: Mike Litchford Benefit with Take Care, Lonely Trailer, Cheaper Hits, the Chemicals, Evil Tents, Dottie and the Rail
WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5 suggested donation)
WHEN: Friday, July 15th at 6:00 p.m.
This show goes to benefit the family of Mike Litchford, who passed away of a neurological cancer. There will be a silent auction, six bands, cover goes to a good cause, and Mike ‘N Molly’s will donate an additional 10% of all sales.
WHAT: Little Boy Junior, Neoga Blacksmith, Black Girls, Iron Tigers, Pamela Machala, Megan Johns, Morgan Orion, Emily Otnes
WHERE: Canopy Club ($8)
WHEN: Friday, July 15th at 8:00 p.m.
I can’t imagine this show not being a low-key affair, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The lineup is inarguably large, and offers a good mix of singer-songwriters with more expanded acoustic acts.
WHAT: Sandunga
WHERE: Iron Post ($TBA)
WHEN: Saturday, July 16th at 6:00 p.m.
A fixture in the jazz a latin scenes for some time now, Sandunga are breaking up and are playing their last show at (where else?) the Iron Post. With a three-hour set time, this show is going to involve a serious amount of music.
WHAT: Hellogoodbye, Fake Problems, Fences, A Great Big Pile of Leaves
WHERE: Canopy Club ($15 advance)
WHEN: Monday, July 18th at 7:00 p.m.
Monday sees the fairly unremarkable pop-rock of Hellogoodbye grace the Canopy stage along with three really solid openers. Indie-prog group A Great Big Pile of Leaves kicks things off, followed by acoustic act Fences and folk-punkers Fake Problems (pictured.)
