C-U will celebrate the run-up to International Jazz Day with a party at The Art Theatre, featuring live music and film clips. The focus this evening will be brass instruments, with movie clips about jazz greats and performances from renowned jazz musicians. Blips has a grab bag of bands for this show: Ambient rock from Springfield, hardcore metal from Virginia, mathy emo from Indiana, and spoken word alternative from Ohio. With a night like that, you’re sure to find something you like.

This is advertised at a “dinner show” and the event page asks that you “come hungry.” I’m not sure if food is provided, or if it is just strongly suggested that you purchase some. Either way, food, drinks, and breezy folk are all great ways to spend an evening.

WHAT: Fare The Well to The Accord

WHEN: Wednesday, April 26 and Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m. both days
This is it – the last hurrah for the excellent bar and music venue known as The Accord. Six mostly local bands will perform on each evening to help bid a fond farewell to the venue after some great experiences of amazing music and friendship, and it’s time to make a toast to the place’s past and future. It’s the end of The Accord as it is known, and there is not much more to say, except that you would forever be remiss if you missed it.

Colorado’s edgy popsters Dressy Bessy return to C-U for the first time in many years to play the Exile stage. They’ll be joined by both psych jam outfit Arc Flash and a local act to help kick off the area’s farewell to the neighboring venue. It’ll be a bittersweet block party.

Continuing the streak of an unusually full Wednesday this week is a show featuring pop rock act Toy Cars, who hail from New Jersey. Accompanying them will be a couple local acts: fledgling jazz group Sleeping Okami and instrumental space metal band Earthhholder, who will provide the standard face-melting that they are known for.

EDM artist Cashmere Cat came from Norway to try his luck in the U.S., which was an excellent gamble, as he’s been nominated for a Grammy and for Producer of the Year. He’s bringing his talent back to C-U this Wednesday.

Two post hardcore groups are prepared to throw down downtown. The music will be fresh, as Winder recently launched the pre-order of their debut EP and Old Home dropped some new stuff back in February. Any thirsty Thursday at The Brass Rail is time well spent, especially if there is a rare show to be had.

So yes, this is Garth Brooks Weekend, everyone. Apparently his last stint in C-U was successful enough to merit FOUR SHOWS this time around, and Saturday is a frigging double header, no less. If Garth is your thing, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the hell out of this, and more power to you, because it’s probably going to be a Garth-level blast.

Hey! There’s another rare show happening this week. Library House welcomes blues and folk artist Moses Nesh as he tours for his album Keeled Scales. Local folk musician Paul Kotheimer will provide the assist for this early, family-friendly show at a beloved seldom-booked show house.

The funky-spacey Sun Stereo is prepared to deliver another excellent set this weekend, along with the dynamic rap duo Trouble Chasin’, the groovy vibes of New Souls, and Black Mage, a hip-hop artist who you might know from his role in Rogue Tendency. It’ll be a sunny, sassy way to welcome in May.
