Chicago DJs Autobot and J2K form Flosstradamus together. Since joining forces in 2005, the group have grown into a major force on the Chicago dance scene, with their mashups and own tracks becoming standards across the midwest. In the process, they’ve played well received sets at Lollapalooza, Coachella and Pitchfork, to name a few. Now, in what is somehow their first appearance in Champaign-Urbana, they’ll perform at Canopy Club this Friday.
Now, if you went to that Girl Talk show last year, you know things can get a little dicey at these things. While seeing the $15 tickets being scalped for up to five times face value outside the Canopy was pretty amusing, the fratboys doing coke in the men’s room and the guy who punched a hole in the bathroom weren’t. Flosstradamus promises to be a more intimate affair, mostly devoid of both the greek crowd and the neon wayfarer wearing hipster.
Don’t worry thought — things are still gonna get sweaty, especially when they drop “Big Bills” and their remix of Matt & Kim’s “Yea Yeah“, which are definite dancefloor fillers. Plus, they’ve got a sweet song about peanut butter from their appearance on “Yo Gabba Gabba”.
Flosstradamus play tomorrow night (Friday) at the Canopy Club with CZO, The Interns, and FamicoM. Tickets are $12 in advance or $14 at the door
