Five questions with Mark Wyman of Take Care

After spending much of the last month touring the East Coast and Midwest, local band Take Care finally arrives home for a show at Mike n’ Molly’s this Saturday. The concert will be the official release party for a split 12″ with Chicago’s Community College.

Take Care formed just five months ago, so it’s probably too early to officially label their sound. However, if the song “Our Home” is any indication, expect slowly building rock n’ roll that crescendos in loud Mogwai-esque bursts of noise with surprisingly clean vocals.

We got vocalist/guitarist Mark Wyman to list some of his local favorites.

Favorite C-U band past or present
Braid is definitely our most influential, and favorite band from Champaign. Hum is another one that had a huge impact on us when we were a little younger. I think these bands are not only huge for this town, but a huge impact on the rock genre in general.

Favorite C-U venue
Mike n’ Molly’s. The soundman there is the best…Bob. Mike the owner knows what he’s talking about. And shows there run super smooth.

Favorite C-U entree, dessert or drink
PBR, from well, just about anywhere…and I eat a lot of Luna and Bread Co. Good food and great family owners!

Favorite album of all time (does not have to be from C-U)
Footloose soundtrack. Its great to wake up to…plus Kevin Bacon. Say no more.

Why readers should come see your show this weekend
You have to be a patient listener for us. Its super important to us to climax a song and invoke the right feelings the music brings along with what our lyrics are saying. If you are in to that, come out to the show. It’s our release party for pete’s sake!

Take Care performs this Satuday, April 3 at 10 p.m. with Community College at Mike n’ Mollys.
