Five questions with Hannah Newman of Girls Next Door

Over the past three or four years, many bands who owe a big gratitude to a capella music have blown up — Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Dirty Projectors. Seems like that makes now a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the genre. Lucky for you, we are blessed to have quite a few a capella groups right here in C-U, including Girls Next Door, an all-female ensemble that has been around since 1971. The group is known for their willingness to take on all musical genres. In advance of this weekend’s show at the Canopy Club, current President and fourth-year member Hannah Newman ever-so-briefly listed her local favorites.

Favorite C-U band past or present
Elsinore

Favorite C-U venue
Canopy Club

Favorite C-U entree, dessert or drink
Cakes on Walnut! A former GND works there. Love it.

Favorite album of all time (does not have to be from C-U)
Space Jam Soundtrack

Why readers should come see your show this Saturday
The show really sets us apart from other a cappella groups on campus. And where else can you hear “Tik Tok” a cappella? Nowhere.

The Girls Next Door perform Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Canopy Club
