Friday, September 21st
High School Musical Jr., Urbana High School Theatre, 7 p.m. $10-14
See some extraordinary performers take the stage in the CUTC’s performance of High School Musical Jr. This show is a part of The Penguin Project, a program that provides theater performance opportunties for youth with special needs. The performers work with a peer mentor throughout the rehearsal and performance process, and then get an opportunity to shine on stage. There are three shows throughout the weekend, and you can find tickets here. (JM)
Celebrate the beginning of Canopy’s 20th anniversary, The Canopy Club, times and prices vary Friday/Saturday
Truly, this trio of shows kicked off last night with STS9 at Canopy, but this weekend there are a couple of shows happening that are kicking off Canopy Club’s 20th anniversary schedule throughout the semester. Friday is Beats Antique, and Saturday is Space Jesus, and both have support acts as well. (PS) Photo by Robert K Recordings

Shop for cool costume and prop pieces, Studio Theatre at Krannert Center, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., price varies
This sale only comes around every two years, so be sure to take advantage. Search for unique finds and treasures from the costume and prop shops. If you want to shop early, you need to purchase a ticket ahead of time for $3. After noon no ticket is needed, but you may miss out on some of the good stuff, so I’d recommend getting your ticket and hauling yourself out of bed for the sale. (JM) Top photo from Facebook
Affordably vaccinate your pet, Champaign County Humane Society, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., $5-$10
At the risk of Bob Barker-ing it: Please spay and neuter your pets! Owning and caring for an animal is expensive, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t vaccinate them. CCHS is offering this low cost clinic to ensure that your pets receive the shots they need: FVRCP for cats, DA2PP/DA2PPL (dogs), rabies, and bordatella are all $5. Flea treatment and dewormer are also available. Please properly transport your animal (cats in a carrier, dogs on leash). Cash or credit only; no appointment needed. More info is on Facebook. Crane Alley’s 15th Anniversary Oktoberfest Extravaganza will celebrate German beer and Crane Alley’s 15th birthday. The beer truck will be outside with a bunch of seasonal beer on tap. There will be a seasonal release from Triptych and Revolution, a German food menu, and an opportunity to snap some photos in your lederhosen und dirndl. (JH)
Sixteen Tons, Our Landmark, Matt Garrison, The Loose Cobra, 6 p.m., donations
There are very few opportunities to combine a cornhole tournament with a rock show. Well, this Saturday in Tolono, you have your chance to fulfill your dream of doing such a thing. A trio of bands are performing alongside the cornhole tourney, and I wrote about Sixteen Tons in my latest scene update if you wanna read up on them beforehand. (PS)

Pick your own bouquet, Moon Grove Farm, 9 a.m. to noon, $1 per flower or 6 for $5
It’s going to be utterly delightful this weekend, so why not spend it picking flowers. Moon Grove Farm has been hosting weekend U-pick events throughout the summer, and those opportunities are waning as fall approaches. Add some fall color to your life with some zinnias, yellow celosia, marigolds, and more. Be sure to check out the Facebook event to get all of the important details including directions, parking, instructions, and such. (JM) Photo from Facebook
