FRIDAY, JULY 6
The 2nd Annual CCAMR Fundraiser, 6:00-9:00 p.m., Alto Vineyards
You (hopefully) already read about it on the cover of SP Thursday but here’s a reminder, just in case you missed that or already forgot where it was that you were planning on drinking Friday night. Proceeds go to Champaign Community Advocacy and Mentoring Resources (CCAMR), which helps adults with developmental disabilities live their daily lives. There will be prizes to bid on, good local food, and music from Candy Foster and Shades of Blue. And Alto is just a great place to spend a Friday evening. (JS)
Pray for it to rain at some point this weekend, any time, free
If you hadn’t noticed, we’re sort of in a drought here in Illinois. Yes, oftentimes rain ruins things happening on the weekend that you want to enjoy outside, but c’mon, this has gone on far enough. I’m all about warm weather, but this has got to stop somewhere. I’m not asking for it to rain all weekend by any means, but I think we all could use a little bit of Mother Nature’s help in cooling this state down a bit. Even if it’s like, an hour of rain, that’s all I’m asking. Now if I can just find my umbrella… (PS)
The Diary of Anne Frank, Friday and Saturday 7:30 p.m., Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (Studio Theatre), $10-$18
This play, written by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, has been newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman. Lisa Gaye Dixon is the director.
Kesselman’s adaptation includes other writings by Anne and also accounts from Holocaust survivors. (TN)
R. Ring, Megan Johns Band, Deathtram, 10:00 p.m., Mike ‘N Molly’s, $5
This is definitely the show of the week to check out. R. Ring features Kelley Deal, the identical twin sister of Pixies bassist Kim Deal. Deal is best known for her familial relations as well as her own band, the Breeders who have been around since the early grunge days in the 90s. Alongside Deal is Mike Montgomery of the band Ampline, and together they make some sweet vacant tunes that anyone can enjoy. (CC)
SATURDAY, JULY 7
Check out an awesome yard sale, 8:00-2:00 p.m., 802 S. Race St. in Urbana
I’m going to shamelessly plug a final go at a yard sale. We will have all kinds of past life stuff (not ghosts and such, but English major/teacher literature and original artwork). There will be new items that were not offered previously, amounting to a collection of treasures from five different people total. Check out this moving sale that will feature artwork, furniture, Longaberger canisters, 35 mm camera, books, kitchen ware, clothing, records, movies, CDs, FREE bins, and much, much more! (JS)
White Party, 5:00 p.m.–2:00 a.m., Chester Street Bar
C-Street is having a cookout from 5–8 p.m., followed by a White Party that begins at 9:00. DJ SUBstitute will be on the decks.
And no, crazy, asshole Uruguayans haven’t taken over C-Street. If you’re not familiar with White Parties, Wiki is your friend.

Dibiase, Thundertruck, Alpha Mile, 10 p.m., The Highdive, $5
Not an entirely busy weekend of shows around C-U this weekend, but this one might make up for it. Prepare for some growling guitars at this one, and if you’re looking for a rock show this is by far your best bet. Dibiase is from Collinsville but they’re on Earth Analog Records, so they know how things work around this part of the state.
Also, the bottom of the poster is pretty funny if you don’t know who Ward is — just sayin’. (PS)
