I never watched the show and I’ve never seen the movie but it’s costume month at the Art Theater. There are probably a good deal of avid Speed Racer fans for you to bond and “geek out” with. Cool beans. (JS)

The Capitol Steps at the Virginia Theatre, 8 p.m., $18-39
The Capitol Steps have gotten significantly edgier the last few years, so expect parodies along the lines of “First Day of Arab Spring,” a Chris Brown number about how you can’t see the bruises behind a burqa. This is going to be so funny. (RH)
2012 Oscar-nominated shorts at the Art Theater, 10 p.m., $3
You should go see these. There’s a solid chance they will all be better than Moneyball and Extremely Loud. And buy a share in the Art Co-op while you’re at it. (RH)
I agree with Robert. Although I did like Moneyball, it’s great to have access to this selection of shorts. (JS)
