Twin City Travelers roll into Danville

In need of weekend plans? Make Saturday a day of road-tripping and roller derby.

The Twin City Derby Girls traveling team heads to Danville on Saturday, taking on the CoMo Derby Dames All-Stars from Columbia, Mo. at the David S. Palmer Arena. It’s not only the travel team’s first bout at the arena, but also their first one as a member of a sanctioned Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) league.

“We are very excited to be able to host a sanctioned bout so close to home,” said Tina Davis, TCDG’s President and a skater for the Twin City Travelers. “It’s been an honor to play against some really great competitors on the road and it will be nice to finally play in front of a hometown crowd. Our fans have been really supportive of us in C-U and we hope to win over a whole new group of fans in Danville.”

TCDG and Star Limousine will be providing bus transportation from Champaign, with beer available for those over 21 (though all ages are welcome to take the bus). The bus will leave from Memphis on Main in downtown Champaign at 5 p.m., and there’s a pre-party there beforehand.

Admission to the bout is $8 in advance, $10 at the door, and children 8 and under are admitted free. Tickets for the bout and for bus transportation can be purchased hereA ticket-and-bus-ride package is $18. A portion of the proceeds will benefit RACES (Rape Advocacy, Counseling, and Education Services) in Urbana, TCDG’s 2012 charity partner.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the bout begins at 7 p.m.
