Do you have a hard time staying motivated to exercise in the winter? Whether the answer is yes or no, why not join the Up Center’s six week pedometer challenge starting on January 16, 2011.

For a $5.00 entrance fee, you have a chance to win weekly prizes and grand prizes at the end. $1.00 of each fee goes to the Up Center; the rest is used for cash prizes.

Speak UP is a poetry and spoken word writing group for the LGBTQA community. Group meetings allow members to write and share work in a supportive and open environment. Writers of all experience levels are invited to attend.

WHAT: Talk It UP

WHERE: Independent Media Center (Suite 203)

WHEN: Monday, Jan. 17, 7:00–8:00 p.m.

Talk It UP is a peer-run, youth-only LGBTQ support group for middle and high-school youth. LGBTQ youth can expect an atmosphere of acceptance and support while meeting other LGBTQ youth. The group is co-facilitated by two UP Center board members (one teacher, one social worker); however the group is led by the youth participants, and is completely confidential.

WHAT: Nekromancy: The Reunion 2011 (DJ Halon Official Homecoming Party)

We’re proud to welcome DJ Halon, co-founder of IDG Productions, back to Chester Street Bar for the first time in over a year! He’ll be accompanied by DJ Noir, who begins his trek to Seattle next week. Let’s wish him a fond farewell!

All four of us will be working the decks on stage throughout the night, spinning your favourite mix of industrial, coldwave, electro, new wave, gothic, powernoise, and aggrotech. So come join us for our Nekromancy-style reunion!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The UP Center of Champaign County is in the early planning stages for Turn it UP! 2011, a concert and variety show featuring local musicians, spoken word artists, improv acts, and more. This event will take place on April 8, 2011.

The UP Center is looking for performers to volunteer their time and talent at Turn it UP! 2011. They are looking for musicians (all kinds), spoken word artists, comedians, improv groups, and other performers to volunteer their time to help make TIU 2011 a success!
