There was plenty more than extra calories to be enjoyed at the Taste of Champaign-Urbana this past weekend. While it would certainly be easy to come to the conclusion that the event would revolve around the many different options the C-U area has to satisfy one’s taste buds, visitors to West Side Park were treated to so much more.
Local artists, businesses, and musicians were on hand to display their art, sell their wares, and share their songs while guests navigated their way through the afternoon and evening. Both food and fun for all ages were in abundant supply. Hosted by the Champaign Park District, the celebration began promptly at 5 p.m. this past Friday and concluded Saturday night with a free concert performance by Arizona natives the Gin Blossoms. While Mother Nature may have teased the audience with a few drops of rain right before the Gin Blossoms took the stage, the weather remained pleasant for the duration of the festivities. All proceeds from this year will go to the Park District’s Youth Scholarship Fund. Bravo to the Champaign Park District and those who sponsored the event. We’re already looking forward to next year’s installment.
