Lisa Troyer of the University of Connecticut will start July 26, though she has been serving on an interim basis since July 2.

The Graduate Employees’ Organization (GEO) will be holding a meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday night at the University YMCA to address changes to the tuition waiver policy for certain programs in the College of Fine and Applied Arts (FAA), according to a press release on the GEO website.
It has been less than a year since the GEO and the University Board of Trustees reached a contractual agreement to protect tuition waivers and increase other benefits for graduate students. The agreement was reached after a strike that lasted two days and stopped instruction in some courses in November.

Rod Blagojevich stood up in court Wednesday and told the judge the opposite of what he has been saying for months. He now says that he will not testify in his own defense to charges that include trying to sell an appointment to President Barack Obama’s old Senate seat.
The ousted Illinois governor, who had loudly insisted on television, radio and even to bystanders outside the courthouse that he would speak directly to jurors, stood in court with his hands folded in front of him, saying calmly and confidently that it was his choice not to testify.

An apparent argument Wednesday afternoon between two men at a Tolono grocery store has left one man dead.
Champaign County Sheriff Dan Walsh said police have arrested Brian Maggio, 42, of Savoy, on a preliminary charge of murder for allegedly shooting his younger brother, Mark Maggio, 32, of Tolono.
