Park board views Virginia marquee redesigns, News-Gazette, November 30
As they work toward a final blueprint, members of the park district board on Monday saw a designer’s version of the new marquee to ornament the Virginia Theatre next year.
They will still need to see another rendering before they sign off for good, but board members made some basic decisions about its features. . .

Four smaller academic units at the University will not have to consolidate, although sharing services with other departments in the future is a possibility to cut costs during the University’s budget crisis.
The Stewarding Excellence @ Illinois project considered the possible merger of academic units with 40 or fewer faculty, which included the College of Media, School of Labor and Employment Relations, School of Social Work and the Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences, said John Unsworth, dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences.

The United Way of Champaign County is partnering with labor organizations to give away food in Rantoul, Mahomet, Champaign and Urbana on the first three Saturdays of December.

Gay rights advocates celebrated Wednesday as the Illinois Legislature voted to legalize civil unions, although some wondered whether the measure that the governor is expected to sign will make it easier or harder to someday win approval of same-sex marriage.
The state Senate approved the legislation 32-24, sending it to Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn. It passed despite complaints from some senators that civil unions threaten the sanctity of marriage or increase the cost of doing business in Illinois.
