Champaign-Urbana has been home to a thriving salsa dancing community for more than a decade. As part of her graduate work in journalism, SP contributor Alyssa Schoeneman recently profiled the local scene in a four part series. We like it so much we asked her to come by and further discuss salsa (and dance in general). And, lucky for us, she brought along Mügé Dizén, who is a founder/instructor for CU@Salsa and a strong advocate for salsa and latin dance in C-U. Together, Alyssa and Mügé discuss the allure of salsa, how to get started, and where to find salsa dance nights.
In addition, we discuss:
- Several of the other dance styles proliferating in C-U
- The importance of exposure to dance in grade school
- Burlesque
- Much more
And if this show is the nudge that finally pushes you over the top, the Beginner Salsa Class starts on July 12.
